NaSBA/DCLG Action Plan to Promote the Growth of Self Build Housing (19 July 2011)

Earlier this year Urban Self Build Ltd were asked to take part in a Government think tank initiative headed by Grant Shapps, the Housing Minister, to help create an action plan which would promote the growth of the self build sector here in the UK.

This week, NaSBA (the National Self Build Association) have published a report setting out the think tank’s recommendations, calling for action on four fronts and listing proposals for making self build a major contributor to housing supply in the coming years.

Main areas of change recommended are:

Land Supply: making it easier to get the plot you always wanted for your self build project

Finance: working with industry to provide more self build mortgages

Regulation: ways in which self build can avoid red tape

Advice: what independent advice can be made available to self builders

The report sets out exemplar case studies which are significant in the self build market and cites USB Ltd as a key “Enabling Developer company who provide serviced, self build plots with a number of entry points for self builders”.

USB Ltd are excited that the government have seen the potential that exists in exceptional people determined to have the bespoke home they always wanted. Our next step is to help where we can to implement the recommendations in the report and to continue to help people get ‘their home, their way’
